Offered for free as a gift to the City of New York at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, this special event brings the local community together to process the crises we have endured and remember those we have lost.
The concert begins with Haydn’s three-part choral drama Te Deum, a liturgical celebration originally commissioned by Empress Marie Therese of Austria at the turn of the 19th century. Paired with this work is Mozart’s Requiem, one of Western Art Music’s most revered and mysterious works. Commissioned just weeks before Mozart’s death, the Requiem was incomplete at the time of his passing and was completed in secrecy by Mozart’s pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr.
